How do I put an hourly contract on hold?

You can pause a contract to stop a freelancer from logging more hours until you are ready to restart the work.

To pause the contract:

  • Go to Manage work > Your contracts and find the contract
  • Select the (...) options menu and choose Pause contract

We recommend letting your freelancer know that you're pausing the contract and when you expect to restart, if you know. This lets the freelancer know what to expect and helps build good communication and trust.

How do I restart a contract that I paused?

  • Go to Manage work > Your contracts and find the contract
  • Select the (...) options menu and choose Restart

Important:

Upwork Payroll contracts will always show as paused because they use a separate billing system.
