To help you focus on work, we offer a range of different payment methods. PayPal service is one of them. To use PayPal, you must make sure that your verified name on Upwork matches the name on your PayPal account. If you haven't verified your name yet, be sure that your profile name matches the name on your PayPal account.
Use PayPal
- Go to Settings › Get Paid
- Click Add Method
- Click the Set Up button for your chosen method
- You will be redirected to sign in to your PayPal account for verification
- Choose a payment schedule and click Next
NOTE
For security reasons, any PayPal account added to your Upwork account will become active after three days.
Edit your account
Your PayPal account details on Upwork cannot be edited. If your PayPal account has changed, you must add a new payment method to ensure that your details on Upwork match your new PayPal account information. Don't forget to remove the old payment method at that time, too.

Yes, when you re-add PayPal to your Upwork account you will be directed to PayPal.com. There, you’ll be prompted to log into your PayPal account and confirm that you want to “Connect your PayPal account to Upwork.”
When you agree to connect your PayPal account to Upwork you allow PayPal to share your full name, email, address, account verification status, PayPal ID with us. This information helps us confirm that you own the PayPal account.
We have a standard hold period any time a payment method is added to an account. This hold stays in place for three calendar days to ensure your account security.
