What is an agency on Upwork?

An agency is a group of freelancers who team up to offer services together under one Upwork profile. Agencies can take on larger or more complex projects by combining their skills — for example, a designer, developer, and copywriter collaborating on a full website build.

How do agencies work?

Agencies are run by an agency owner or manager, who handles client communication, assigns work to team members, and manages contracts and payments. Agency members work on client projects under the agency’s contracts — and the agency handles how earnings are distributed.

How do I create an agency?

If you don't have a freelancer account on Upwork, please create one first, then follow these steps:

  1. Go to Account settings (desktop) or Settings (mobile app)
  2. Select Contact info
  3. Scroll down to Additional accounts
  4. Select New Agency Account

Can I create multiple agencies?

No, each freelancer can only create one agency on Upwork.

Important: In order to add team members to your agency, you'll need to subscribe to our Agency Plus plan. Learn about the benefits here.
