How to add certifications to your Upwork profile

Showcase your verified skills on Upwork by adding certifications. Learn how to add, verify, and manage credentials easily.

Will certifications that I added through Credly still show on my profile?

If you give consent to keep them, your Credly-issued certifications will stay on your profile as static badges. That means:

• You’ll still see the title, issuer, and issue date
• The badges won’t update or re-verify through Credly anymore
• The certifications (and related skills) won’t display as verified through Credly
• You won’t be able to edit them or click through to a verification link

If you didn’t give consent (or didn’t respond), those badges will be removed from your profile as part of the sunset process.

How can I show my certifications to clients without Credly?

You can:

• Keep showing the certifications you’ve added through Credly (no updates or verification going forward)
• Add certifications manually. Choose from our list of certifications (verified through Upwork’s process) or add up to two custom ones (not verified)

Can I remove certifications that were added through Credly?

Yes, you’ll see the option to keep or remove them when you log into the platform. You can also remove any certifications at any time by deleting them in the Certifications section of your profile.

If you decide to add them again later, you’ll need to re-enter them manually.

Will not syncing with Credly affect my Job Success Score or visibility?

No — not at all. Credly certifications were never tied to how your Job Success Score is calculated or how you're matched in search. This change won’t impact your ranking, visibility, or performance metrics on Upwork.

Why isn’t my certification from Credly showing, and what can I do about it?

Once Credly was deprecated, you had the option on the platform to keep or remove your certifications. If you didn’t give consent (or didn’t respond), those badges were removed from your profile as part of the sunset process.

You can re-add the certification manually.

Why are you removing the option to sync with Credly, and will you offer new verification providers in the future?

Upwork is ending its partnership with Credly as part of a shift toward verifying certifications through our platform and through partners who certify freelancers for their specific services. Since syncing relies on Credly’s systems, this integration is being fully deprecated.

Don’t worry — if you had Credly certifications on your profile before, we’re keeping them visible (with your consent) as read-only legacy badges.

How do I manually add a certification to my profile on Upwork?

If the certification you want isn’t on our list, you can add up to two custom ones:

1. Go to your profile from the dropdown selections under your profile picture
2. Scroll to the Certifications section and select the + sign
3. In the dropdown list for certifications, scroll to the end and select Add a custom certification
4. Enter your information and select Add certification

How do I remove certifications from my profile?

1. Go to your profile and scroll to the Certifications section
2. Find the one you’d like to remove
3. Select the trash icon
