Account Suspension - Skills Are Not in Demand

At times, we notice that some freelancers aren’t finding success on Upwork because their skills are not in demand.

As a result, we must take the unfortunate step of suspending their accounts.

How did you make this decision?

When we notice you’ve submitted proposals for many jobs but have won very few contracts or had very few earnings, it signals to us that the opportunities on Upwork are not a good match for your skills. (It also can mean you’re violating our Terms of Service by winning contracts through Upwork but not being paid via Upwork or spamming clients.)

If your account has been suspended because your skills aren’t in demand, please know we carefully looked at the number of proposals you submitted for jobs and the contracts you were awarded to make our decision.

Can I submit an appeal?

If you haven’t submitted an appeal already, you can email us at marketplace-appeals@upwork.com. Please include why you are appealing our decision and as many details as possible. For example, do you have any additional education, skills or work experience that is not included on your profile? If so, please attach copies of relevant documents (diplomas, certificates, etc.) that verify that education, skill or experience.

Please note each case will be manually reviewed by our Trust & Safety team to decide if your account can be reinstated.

Are you closing client accounts too? Some clients post many jobs but never hire.

We have systems in place to check both client and freelancer accounts to make sure they are not violating our Terms of Service and suspend both client and freelancer accounts to improve the success of the overall Upwork marketplace.

I heard Upwork will close my account if I submit proposals for too many jobs. Is that true?

Your account will be suspended if we notice you have submitted proposals for many jobs on Upwork, but have won very few contracts or had very few earnings. Typically, this means the opportunities on Upwork may not be a good match for your skillset. Please note that we find only a small portion of our users’ accounts are suspended for this reason.
