Exceptions

Upwork Business and Enterprise Clients are granted exceptions to certain parts of Upwork's Terms of Service.

  • They may share and request contact information outside of Upwork before a contract starts.
  • They may conduct interviews outside of Upwork before a contract starts.

Why is there an exception for Business and Enterprise Clients?

Upwork Business and Enterprise clients are large businesses, including over one third of the Fortune 500, with particular business needs to run their talent programs. They often have sizable programs to select, interview, and contract with their freelancers that span across business departments.

In order to facilitate the talent programs of the largest clients, Upwork provides these clients with ongoing support in these processes and the management of their Upwork relationships, thus they are at low risk of fraud, scam, and circumvention.
