How to cancel a project you purchased on Project Catalog

How do I cancel a Project Catalog order?

  1. Go to Manage work > Your contracts
  2. Open the contract for the project you want to cancel — you’ll be in the contract workroom
  3. Select Cancel contract in the top right
  4. Submit a refund request to the freelancer

 

Will I get my money back if I cancel a project?

It depends. Refunds aren’t guaranteed.

  • If the freelancer approves your cancellation and refund request, you’ll get your money back in full. Refunds usually take up to five business days to process. Learn more about refunds here
  • If the freelancer already started or completed the work, they can choose to keep part or all of the funds and dispute your request. Learn what to do next here

 

Tip:

If something about the project changed, consider messaging your freelancer before canceling. Most are happy to adjust timelines or scope if possible.

 

What if the freelancer cancels the project?

A freelancer can cancel a project within 24 hours of receiving your requirements — maybe because their schedule changed or they realized the project isn't the right fit.

You’ll get a full refund within five business days if:

  • The freelancer cancels
  • You didn’t submit requirements within 48 hours (in which case the system auto-cancels it)

If you're still interested in working together, you can message the freelancer to see if they’re available later — or browse other projects that may suit your needs.
