When do I pay in my local currency on Upwork?
While all costs on Upwork are listed in U.S. Dollars (USD), you may see charges in your local currency depending on where you're located.
If you're a client and your billing address or card-issuing bank is based in certain countries, we’ll automatically convert your charges to your local currency when you pay with a Visa, Mastercard, or American Express debit/credit card.
Note: Since exchange rates between currencies change constantly, the converted currency showing on Upwork’s platform is an estimate. This means that the rate you see displayed during checkout may not be the exchange rate at the time you are billed. You’ll see the amount charged to your card on the invoice in your Transaction history.
How do I edit what currency I am being billed in?
If you prefer to switch from paying in your local currency to paying in USD, or vice-versa:
- Go to Account settings (desktop) or Settings (mobile) > Billing & Payments
- Choose Edit on your credit or debit card
- Select your preferred currency
- Choose Save changes
In what countries can I pay in my local currency?
If you're paying with a Visa, MasterCard, or American Express debit/credit card, we’ll automatically bill you in your local currency if your billing address or card-issuing bank is in one of the following countries:
