What is Loom?
Loom is a quick video messaging tool that makes it easier to collaborate. You can record your screen, camera, and voice all at once, then instantly drop the video into your conversation.
With Upwork’s Loom integration, you can record and share videos right from your messages — no extra apps or tabs needed.
Does it cost extra to use Loom on Upwork?
No. It’s free for everyone, no matter what type of Upwork account you have.
What can I do with Loom on Upwork?
- Record your screen with a voiceover and an optional camera bubble
- Quickly explain ideas or tasks with short videos
- Add a personal touch to your messages — no scheduling needed
- Save time and avoid back-and-forth by showing instead of typing
Do I have to create a Loom account to use it on Upwork?
No, creating a Loom account is totally optional, but it's helpful if you plan to use it often.
You can create or share up to five Loom videos within Upwork Messages without an account. But creating a Loom account gives you a few extras — like the ability to:
- Record and share more than five videos
- Edit your recordings
- Delete videos you've created
How do I record with Loom?
- Open a conversation in your messages or start a new one
- Select the Loom logo — the starburst icon near the bottom of messages
- Allow access to your camera and microphone if prompted
- Choose what you'd like to record:
- Camera and screen
- Just your screen
- Just your camera
- Select Start recording
Tip: If you’re having trouble, make sure your computer allows screen recording in security and privacy settings
Are Loom videos kept safe? Can Upwork or Loom access the videos that I record?
Loom goes to great lengths to keep their users' videos, and by extension, their users, safe. You can learn more here. You're the only person who can access your videos until you share the link with someone else in messages. Neither Upwork, Loom, nor anybody that works at either company will be able to view your video without permission.
Is there a way to test out Loom before sending a message to a client?
Yes, you can record a video and preview it, which allows you to review the content and delete/re-record if necessary. If you have a Loom account, you can access your videos through a dashboard and edit them too.
Can I attach the Loom video to a job description?
Loom is only built into your messages and isn’t available to record when you post a job. However, you can record a Loom video on the Loom website, then copy and paste the link into the job description.
What’s the difference between Zoom and Loom?
Zoom, and other instant video platforms, allow you to communicate in real time. Loom provides an easy way to communicate asynchronously.
What browsers are compatible with Loom?
Loom is only available for desktop users right now on the latest editions of Chrome, Edge, and Brave.
Can I download the Loom videos?
Yes, but you’ll need an account in Loom. When you access the full video in Loom’s dashboard, click the down arrow/download button to download the video.
I’m having other problems with Loom.
If you’re having other problems (especially with computer permissions), try troubleshooting from Loom.
