Upwork’s Loom integration lets users record and share screen, voice, and video messages directly within Messages, enhancing clarity and saving time. Up to five videos can be shared without a Loom account. Creating an account allows unlimited recording, editing, and downloading. It works on desktop in Chrome, Edge, and Brave.

Loom is a quick video messaging tool that makes it easier to collaborate and communicate clearly. With Upwork’s Loom integration, you can record and share videos right from your Messages — no extra apps or tabs needed.

You can record your screen, camera, and voice all at once, then instantly drop the video into your conversation. It’s free for everyone, no matter what type of Upwork account you have.

What can you do with Loom?

  • Record your screen with a voiceover and an optional camera bubble
  • Quickly explain ideas or tasks with short videos
  • Add a personal touch to your messages — no scheduling needed
  • Save time and avoid back-and-forth by showing instead of typing

A Loom account is not required to create or share up to five Loom recordings within Upwork Messages. However, it can be helpful to make an account. If you make a free account, you can create and share more than 5 videos, edit Loom recordings, or delete them.

How to record with Loom

  1. Open a conversation in Messages or start a new one
  2. Select the Loom logo the starburst icon near the bottom of messages
  3. Allow access to your camera and microphone if prompted
  4. Choose what you'd like to record:
    • Camera and screen
    • Just your screen
    • Just your camera
  5. Select Start recording

Tip: If you’re having trouble, make sure your computer allows screen recording in Security and Privacy settings

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Loom videos kept safe? Can Upwork or Loom access the videos that I record?

Loom goes to great lengths to keep their users' videos, and by extension, their users safe. You can learn more here. You're the only person who can access your videos until you share the link with someone else in Messages. Neither Upwork, Loom, nor anybody that works at either company will be able to view your video without permission.

Do I need to make a Loom account or be signed into Loom to use this feature?

You can create or share up to five Loom videos within Upwork Messages without an account. But creating a Loom account does give you a few extras — like the ability to:

  • Record and share more than five videos
  • Edit your recordings
  • Delete videos you've created

It's totally optional, but helpful if you plan to use Loom often.

Is there a way to test out Loom before sending a message to a client?

Yes, you can record a video and preview it, which allows you to review the content and delete/re-record if necessary. If you have a Loom account, you can access your videos through a dashboard and edit them too.

Can you attach the Loom video to a job description?

Right now, Loom is only built into your Messages and isn’t available to record when you post a job. However, you can record a Loom video on the Loom website, then copy and paste the link into the job description.

What’s the difference between Zoom and Loom?

Zoom, and other instant video platforms, allow you to communicate in real time. Loom provides an easy way to communicate asynchronously.

What browsers are compatible?

Loom is only available for desktop users right now on the latest editions of Chrome, Edge, and Brave.

Can I download the videos?

Yes, but you’ll need an account in Loom. When you access the full video in Loom’s dashboard, click the down arrow/download button to download the video.

I’m having other problems with Loom.

If you’re having other problems (especially with computer permissions), try troubleshooting from Loom.

Question: Can I link Otter.ai with Upwork Messages?
Answer: Sadly, no. Currently, the only integrations available are Zoom and embedded Loom function. Stay tuned for more integrations!
