How do I create an HAR file in Chrome?

  1. Open Chrome and go to the page where you're seeing the issue
  2. Select the three-dot menu (top-right next to your profile picture)
  3. Select More tools > Developer tools
  4. In the panel that opens, select the Network tab
  5. Make sure the Record button is active (red). If it's gray, click it to start recording
  6. Check the box by Preserve log
  7. Select the Clear button to remove old logs
  8. Reproduce the issue — do whatever is causing the problem
  9. Once the issue happens, select the Export HAR icon (a download arrow) and save the file to your computer —  select Save as HAR with Content

How do I create an HAR file in Firefox?

  1. Open Firefox and go to the page with the issue
  2. Select the menu button (top-right), then choose More tools > Web Developer
  3. In the panel that opens, select the Network tab
  4. The recording starts automatically — just perform the steps that trigger the problem
  5. Once you’ve reproduced the issue and see that all of the actions have been generated in the Developer Network Panel (should just take a few seconds), right-click in the File column and select Save all as HAR
  6. Save the file to your computer

 

How do I create an HAR file in Safari?

  1. Open Safari and go to the page where the issue happens
  2. Go to Safari > Preferences
  3. Under Advanced, check Show Develop menu in menu bar
  4. Open Develop > Show Web Inspector
  5. Go to the Network tab
  6. Recording starts automatically, so go ahead and reproduce the issue
  7. Select the Export icon (far right on the Network tab) and save the HAR file to your computer

 

How do I create an HAR file in Microsoft Edge?

  1. Open Edge and navigate to the problem page.
  2. Select the three-dot menu > More tools > Developer Tools.
  3. Select the Network tab.
  4. Make sure the Record button is red — if it’s gray, click it to start recording
  5. Check the box by Preserve log
  6. Select the Clear button to remove old entries
  7. Recreate the issue
  8. When done, right-click any row in the log and choose Save as HAR with content
  9. Save the file to your computer

 

Where do I send the HAR file after I save it?

If someone asks you to share the HAR file (like Upwork Support), they’ll let you know the best way to send it. Once they have it, they can dig into what’s going wrong.
