Upwork supports wire transfers for freelancers with non-U.S. bank accounts using the SWIFT system. The beneficiary name must match your Upwork profile. IBANs are required in some countries—check with your bank. Wire transfer details must be accurate to avoid delays or failures, and new payment methods activate after three days.
To help make accessing your earnings easier, we support a range of payment options, including wire transfers. Wire transfers are a well-established way to make bank-to-bank funds transfers across international borders. They're available to all freelancers with a valid account with a bank outside the U.S. that uses the SWIFT system.
Note:
The beneficiary name on your bank account must match the name on your Upwork profile. Exceptions may be made for transgender users and common name changes (i.e., Robert to Bob). If your payment method was flagged for a name mismatch, please contact us to resolve the issue.
If you live in a country where your IBAN (International Bank Account Number) is required by your bank, please be sure to add it in the account number field in your Upwork account. Not sure if you need to add an IBAN? Check with your bank or here to learn if you do.
To add a bank account for wire transfers
- Go to Account settings (desktop) or Settings (mobile app) > Get Paid
- Choose Add a method
- Select the Set up button for your chosen method
- Enter your bank account details
- Choose a payment schedule and select Next
For security reasons, your new payment method will become active in three days.
It's essential that you enter your bank information correctly. Any errors could result in a failed transfer or delay. Contact your bank if you're not sure you have the correct information or if you received an error when you tried to enter it in our system. Wire transfers' timing and fees vary depending on your bank.
