Helping to keep you and your information safe is important to us at Upwork, which is why we offer robust two-step account verification.

We activate two-step verification processes when login attempts or activity on your account seem suspicious or when, as we all do sometimes, you’ve forgotten your password or security answer. To enhance your security in these scenarios, we generally recommend that users activate multiple two-step verification methods.

Users who have set up multiple two-step verification methods have the option to specify which is used first. You can do so — or activate additional two-step verification methods — at any time by going to:

  1. User Settings > Password & Security.
  2. Clicking the "Settings" button in the “Two-step verification options” section. 

If you have forgotten your password or your security answer, please follow the instructions below to reset them. These reset steps apply to users who have set up a security question as their only two-step verification method. 

Note: During the password/security question recovery process, we may send you emails with instructions or unique links that you must use to continue the process. If you do not see expected emails arrive in your inbox, be sure to check your junk and spam folders.

 

If you have forgotten your password but know your security answer

  1. Ensure you can access the email address associated with your Upwork account.
  2. Click the Forgot password? link when prompted for your password.
  3. Enter your Upwork username or email.
  4. In the email you receive, click the “Update Password” button.
  5. Follow the verification steps as guided.

 

If you remember your password and want to reset a forgotten security answer

  1. Ensure you can access the email address associated with your Upwork account.
  2. Click the Forgot your answer? link on the security question challenge form.
  3. Follow the instructions directing you to your email for next steps.

 

If you have forgotten both your password and security answer, and have no other two-step verification options activated

  1. Ensure you can access the email address associated with your Upwork account.
  2. Submit this form to provide support with additional information to recover your account.
  3. We’ll send you an email with next steps.
