How to fix an account suspension due to an expiring credit card

If your Upwork account is suspended due to an expiring credit card, it's easy to update your billing method by adding a new card, PayPal, or bank account to restore access.


I got an email that my Upwork account is suspended because my credit card is expiring. What do I do?

If your credit card is nearing its expiration date, we may place a temporary restriction on your account, and you may see a "financial transactions are limited" error message. This helps ensure that your billing method stays valid and meets the requirements for Upwork’s Hourly Protection.

Don’t worry — we'll email you if this happens, and it’s easy to lift the restriction. Just update your billing method by doing one of the following:

Important: Credit card and PayPal info can't be edited directly. If your details change or the card expires, you'll need to add them as new billing methods.
