Sometimes a client may send you an offer through direct messages, without requiring a job proposal or interview first.

Instant Connection Fee for new direct offers

If a client sends you an offer through direct messages, and this is your first direct offer from the client, you will need to pay a one-time per client Instant Connection Fee of $4.99 USD to accept it.

We’ll deduct the one-time fee from the first eligible payment you receive from a client. An eligible payment is one that is greater than the $4.99 USD fee after other fees and taxes are charged.

If you’re an agency freelancer, we’ll still charge the fee even if someone else in the agency has worked with the client. If you’re working through the agency and the owner accepts the offer, we’ll charge the agency. If you’re not an exclusive agency member and accept an offer on your own, you’ll pay the fee.

You will not have to pay this fee on Upwork Payroll or Enterprise contracts.

Reviewing offers

Make sure to review the offer carefully. Be sure that you can complete the work and are satisfied with the contract terms.
