Sometimes a client may send you an offer through direct messages, without requiring you to submit a proposal or interview first. These offers do not require you to use any Connects.

Be sure to review these offers carefully like you would any invitation or job post to make sure you are interested in and the perfect fit for the work. You do not have to accept these offers, and declining them doesn’t impact your standing on Upwork.

It is a good practice to reply to the direct offer though. When you receive one, you can respond through Upwork Messages:

  1. Go to Messages and choose the conversation related to your direct offer
  2. Select View offer
  3. Review the details and select Accept offer or Decline offer

Frequently Asked Questions

How do direct contracts work for agencies?

When a client sends a direct offer (without a proposal being submitted) to an exclusive agency member or a non-exclusive agency member who has set the agency as their default team, the subsequent contract will be created with that agency member through the agency.

If a direct offer (without a preceding proposal) is sent to a non-exclusive agency member who does not have the agency set as their default team, the subsequent contract will be created solely under the agency member’s freelancer account and not through the agency.
