Question: I'd like to file a ticket to verify my account.

Answer: Upwork requires identity verification to maintain platform security. This process ensures that freelancers and clients are who they claim to be, which helps maintain trust and safety on the platform.

You cannot proactively verify your account until Upwork requests it. Typically, Upwork will send you a notification when it’s time to verify your identity, and the notification will appear in the Identity Verification tab of your account settings and email inbox.

Solution: Please be patient. Having the 'Identity Verified' badge is not mandatory to apply for jobs or hire freelancers, so you can continue working and hiring as usual. It’s important to note that we cannot disclose the specific triggers that initiate the identity verification process, and submitting a ticket will not expedite it.

Question: How do I change my account's country or residence?

Answer: Go to Account Settings, scroll down to the Location section, and click on the 🖉 pencil icon.

Fill out the time zone, country, address, and phone fields. You'll be requested to authenticate again.

It's important to notice that once you've changed your country or residence information, you'll have to update your Tax information to match your new location. Also, you might be prompted to verify your location and identity again.
