Question: How can I shift an active contract from my freelancer account to my agency account?
Answer: It's not possible to directly transfer an active contract from your individual freelancer account to your agency because your freelancer and agency accounts are two different entities. Contracts are bound to the account that initially accepted them, meaning if you accepted a contract as an individual freelancer, it cannot be transferred to an agency account or an agency member without following Upwork's process.
The best way to resolve this is by discussing the situation directly with your client. Once they agree, there are two main options:
-
End the current contract and reissue it under the agency:
- Discuss with your client about moving the contract to the agency.
- Have the client end the current contract.
- The client can then create a new job post and invite your agency profile (or you as part of the agency) to the job.
- The agency accepts the offer, and work continues under the new agency contract.
-
Continue working under the individual contract:
- If the client does not want to go through the process of ending and reissuing a contract, you can continue to work on the project as an individual.
- However, keep in mind that the earnings from this contract will not be reflected in your agency profile or contribute to the agency's work history.
Important note: Please make sure that the fixed price contract has no funds in escrow before ending it. If you initiate to end the contract while the milestone is funded, the amount will be returned to your client. If the client ends the contract will a funded milestone, you will receive an escrow refund request notification.
