How to use Upwork Messages for chats, updates, and meetings

Chat using Upwork Messages

Upwork Messages is your main hub for communicating on Upwork, and is where collaboration starts and is stored — so you can track your conversations. Use messages to:

• Send and receive text messages, links, attachments, and screenshots
• Keep an ongoing conversation going, async or real-time
• Communicate from your desktop, the Upwork mobile app, the desktop app, or directly in a contract’s workroom
• Keep a complete history of your chats — message content stays saved as long as your account is active

Have a video meeting on Upwork

You can use Zoom or Upwork video meetings right from Upwork Messages.

Zoom

We've integrated Zoom right into Upwork, no Zoom account needed. Use Zoom to:

• Meet one-on-one or in groups
• Share presentations in real time
• Record meetings (optional) and share a link for up to seven days

Keep in mind:

• Zoom meetings don’t include in-meeting chat
• Anyone with the link and password can access the recording, if it’s recorded

Upwork video meetings

Meet live with Upwork’s own built-in video meeting tool. You can:

• Share screens and chat during meetings
• Automatically generate meeting recordings, recaps, and action items (optional)
• Access meeting recordings and recaps for six months
   

Note: This feature is being rolled out gradually and is not available to everyone yet.

Record and send Loom video messages on Upwork

Record your screen (with optional audio) directly in Upwork Messages from your desktop browser or the mobile web. Loom’s great when you want to:

• Explain an idea visually or walk through steps
• Provide updates without having a meeting
   

Note: Loom is not available in the Upwork Desktop App, mobile app, or on some browsers.
