Learn how to check your account standing, resolve access issues, and stay compliant in the account health hub. Find it under your profile menu in Account health.
What is the account health hub?
The account health hub is a centralized space where you can see the overall status of your Upwork account. It helps you understand how your activity and actions may affect your ability to work on the platform — and gives you clear steps to stay in good standing.
There you’ll find:
- Any current holds, warnings, restrictions, or blocks
- Policy or Terms of Service violations (if applicable)
- Profile visibility status
- Information about completed or ongoing Trust and Safety reviews
- Next steps or actions you can take to resolve issues
How do I check my account health?
- Click on the thumbnail of your profile picture
- Select Account health
Why is my account standing still “at risk” even after I resolved the platform access issue?
Getting back onto the platform is a great step forward, but it doesn’t completely clear your record. The policy violation that led to the restriction is still part of your account history, and that’s what’s keeping your account standing in the “at risk” zone.
Here’s what to keep in mind:
- Violations don’t last forever. They expire over time, and if you avoid any new issues, your account standing can recover. Note: We do not share the specific timeline for when a violation will expire
- Violations add up. If there’s more than one on your record, they can have a bigger impact
- Following our policies is the solution. The best way to improve your standing is to follow our Terms of Service closely moving forward. A clean track record helps restore trust over time
- You can share new evidence. If you have new information that clearly shows you didn’t violate a policy, you can submit an appeal to have the enforcement reviewed from the account hub
What do the different platform access statuses mean?
Your platform access status shows whether you can fully use Upwork’s features or if there are limits on your account. Here’s what each status means:
- Normal. You’re all set and have full access to all standard platform features
- Restricted. Some features are limited and you need to take action to get full access again
- Revoked. Your Upwork account is suspended. You’ll need to submit an appeal to find out if your access can be restored
What impacts my platform access?
- Identity verification holds
- Payment or billing issues
- Recent policy violations
- Certain compliance checks
What do the different account standing statuses mean?
Your account standing shows how your activity aligns with our policies. It’s meant to help you stay on track before small issues turn into bigger ones. Here’s what each status means:
- Good. You’re in great shape, no recent policy violations, or maybe just one minor one
- At risk. Time to pay close attention because you’ve had more than one minor violation or one serious one. Your account still works as normal, but more issues could lead to restrictions
- High risk. You’re close to losing access to Upwork due to multiple violations. You still have full access for now, but your account is one step away from being blocked
- Blocked. Your account has been restricted and you can’t use Upwork
What impacts my account standing?
- Past policy violations of our marketplace standards
- Successful appeals of past violations can help improve standing
I filed an appeal, where do I track it?
- Open Account health and check the enforcement item marked Appeal submitted
- Select View status to follow progress through intake, review, and resolution
What’s the difference between minor and serious policy violations, and how many “strikes” do I get before a violation is considered serious?
We don’t use a one-size-fits-all model, such as “three strikes and you’re out.” Instead, violations are weighted based on their type, severity, and potential risk to clients, freelancers, or the platform. Here’s the difference:
Minor violations
- Usually one-time or lower-risk issues
- Often treated as warnings, but they can still add up over time
- A few minor violations might not change your standing, but repeated ones can shift your account to At Risk
Serious violations
- Higher-risk behavior, like attempting to take work off-platform or repeatedly ignoring our Terms of Service
- These often trigger an immediate drop in your account standing — even if it’s your first violation
- Some policies are considered zero-tolerance and may lead to restriction or suspension right away
Note:
To balance transparency and platform safety, we don’t share or display a running total of strikes or violation points in the hub.
Why is my account standing status listed as blocked if I had no prior policy violations?
Some violations are serious enough to result in immediate blocking. If you believe this was in error, you can submit an appeal.
What does it mean if an enforcement is marked expired in the hub?
No action is required. Expired enforcements no longer impact your standing — but you may still see related tips to help avoid similar issues in the future.
Why don’t I see some of my prior enforcements in the enforcement history?
Enforcements from before the launch of the account health hub won’t appear in your history or impact your current standing.
