How do I access the Upwork connector in Claude?
You’ll need to enable the Upwork connector to start (you’ll only need to do this once). From within Claude:
- Go to Customize → Connect your apps
- Search for “Upwork,” and select it
- Click Connect
- Grant the requested permissions
The Upwork connector is now available for use in your Claude conversations.
How approvals work
Draft, then confirm: Claude prepares most actions (job posts, proposals, invitations, messages, milestones) as a draft you approve before anything is sent or published.
Finish on upwork.com: Accepting an offer, funding or approving a milestone payment, and changing a contract’s weekly hour limit can’t be done in Claude — Claude gives you a link to finish these yourself.
For clients
How can I use Upwork on Claude?
- Post a job — Describe what you need in plain text. For example, “Start an Upwork job post for a data analyst who can turn customer support transcripts into weekly trend reports.” Claude drafts a title and description, then helps you fill in budget, timeline, and other details through conversation. Review the draft and confirm then Claude publishes it straight to the Upwork marketplace, no redirect.
- Find and invite freelancers — Ask Claude to find freelancers with the skills you need; it returns matching profiles with links so you can review experience and message or invite them. You can also invite a specific freelancer to a job directly, and Claude will check how many invite slots you have left.
- Review proposals — See who’s applied to a job (or all your jobs), shortlist strong candidates, or decline applicants and they’re notified when declined.
- Hire — Put together a hiring offer with rate, milestones, and contract dates.
- Manage the engagement — Message freelancers, pause or end a contract, and create or review milestones. Funding a milestone (escrow) or approving a payment happens on upwork.com.
- Track spend and plan ahead — Check your dashboard for new proposals, offers, and messages; pull spend summaries and payment history; ask for typical market rates when setting a budget; and save freelancers you like to a list for later.
How are freelancers selected to appear in Claude results?
The system looks for freelancers who:
- Have strong reputation signals like relevant skills, a Job Success Score of 90% or higher, and good client feedback
- Have their freelancer profile on Upwork set to public
Are these freelancers vetted or endorsed by Upwork?
Freelancers shown in Claude results are not individually vetted or endorsed — but they are filtered based on Upwork quality signals like Job Success Score.
Is there an extra cost to use Claude with Upwork?
No. This feature is included as part of the standard Upwork experience for both freelancers and clients. There’s no additional fee to appear in, or use, the Claude integration. Our connector is available to all Claude users, even if you use the free plan.
Standard Upwork fees still apply when you hire and work with freelancers.
Is my data safe?
Claude works with the information you provide.
Keep in mind:
- Only share information you’re comfortable using in an AI tool
- Avoid including sensitive or confidential details unless appropriate
You’re responsible for the content you create and share.
Does this replace posting jobs on Upwork?
No. It helps you start faster, but you’ll still complete and publish your job on Upwork.
For freelancers
How can I use Upwork on Claude?
- Find work — Search the marketplace, get jobs matched to your profile automatically, or save/hide a job you’re (not) interested in — clients aren’t notified either way.
- Apply — Submit a proposal, optionally with a paid boost to stand out — Claude shows the Connects cost before submitting. Accept or decline invitations you receive from clients.
- Get hired — Review an offer’s terms, and decline or request changes right in Claude. Accepting an offer is a binding step you’ll complete yourself on upwork.com.
- Do the work — Message clients on your contracts (on proposal threads, the client has to message first), and check contract and milestone status anytime.
- Get paid — Submit completed milestone work — with a note and files — for the client’s review. Track your earnings, payment history, and Connects balance from your dashboard.
- Build your visibility — Keep your profile updated (title, overview, skills, availability, work history, languages, education), and manage paid visibility features like your “Available Now” badge or a profile boost ad — both show the Connects cost before you confirm.
How are freelancers selected when using Claude?
The system looks for freelancers who:
- Have strong reputation signals like relevant skills, a Job Success Score of 90% or higher, and good client feedback
- Have their freelancer profile on Upwork set to public
Will Claude show all available freelancers?
Not all — and that’s intentional. Claude displays a curated list of up to 10 freelancers in a scrollable carousel based on what a client is looking for. It’s designed to be relevant and easy to browse, not overwhelming. If clients want more options, they’ll be directed to Upwork for full access.
How can I use Claude to improve my visibility?
To maximize your visibility:
- Set your freelancer profile to Public
- Maintain a Job Success Score of 90% or higher
- Keep your profile detailed, keyword-rich, and up to date
Will Claude use my full freelancer profile?
No — only a preview. Users will see a limited set of information including:
- Your name, title, and key skills
- Hourly rate
- A short overview
- Highlights from your work history
To view your full profile, clients will need to click through and visit your Upwork page.
Does my freelancer profile need to be public?
Yes. Only public profiles are eligible to appear in Claude search results. Profiles set to private or “Upwork users only” will not be shown.
Does boosting my profile affect Claude results?
No. Boosting does not affect how Claude works.
Will this affect how clients contact me?
No, it just expands your visibility. When clients discover you through Claude, they’ll land directly on your profile (after signing up or logging in to Upwork) and can send you a message.
I don't want my freelancer profile to show up in Claude, how do I prevent that?
Set your profile visibility to Private or Upwork users only. Claude only shows content that’s already public on Upwork. Nothing private will be shared.
