Finding the right freelancer can take a bit of time, but Uma, Upwork's Mindful AI, is here to help. When you use our shortlisting feature, within hours you get an AI-powered shortlist of top freelancers who meet your criteria.
This service is always available if you have our Business Plus plan, and at times we may offer shortlisting as part of our free, Basic plan.
Note: Shortlisting isn’t available for some job posts, such as private jobs or those in the legal category. We’ll let you know if it isn’t available for your post.
How to request a shortlist
To receive a shortlist, make sure your job is public. You can request a shortlist in two ways, if the option is available to you:
1. Before posting a job:
- Go to Hire Talent > Post a Job
- Choose Create a new job post
- Fill out your job details, and when prompted, opt in for shortlisting support
- Submit your job post, and once your shortlist is ready, we'll email you
2. After posting a job:
- Go to Hire Talent > Your Open Job Posts
- Select the specific job post
- At the top of the page, choose Request Shortlisting
- Once your shortlist is ready, you will be notified by email and can start reviewing the top recommendations
Where to find your shortlist
Once your shortlist is ready, you can access it by navigating to:
- Go to Hire Talent > Your Open Job Posts
- Select the job post you requested a shortlist for
- Choose Review Proposals
- Open the Shortlisted tab to see the suggested freelancers
Provide feedback on your shortlist
To help improve future shortlists, you can provide feedback on the selected freelancers by using the thumbs-up or thumbs-down feature next to each freelancer's profile in the shortlist section:
- Go to Hire Talent > Your Open Job Posts
- Select the relevant job post and go to Review Proposals > Shortlisted
- Choose the thumbs up to approve a freelancer or the thumbs down if they don’t meet your requirements
Your feedback helps us refine future recommendations to better match your needs.
