What is the Direct to U.S. Bank option for getting paid on Upwork?
Direct to U.S. Bank is a withdrawal method that allows you to send your Upwork earnings straight to your U.S.-based checking or savings account, as long as the account can accept payments from the Automated Clearing House (ACH) system.
What are the fees for using Direct to U.S. Bank to withdraw my earnings?
- Direct to U.S. Bank withdrawals are free for freelancers with a United States tax address.
- Starting September 1, 2026, a $2.99 fee will apply to each Direct to U.S. Bank withdrawal if your tax address is outside of the United States. If a withdrawal is scheduled before September 1, 2026, it will continue to be processed free of charge. The fee will apply to any new withdrawal initiated, or any previously scheduled withdrawal that will execute on or after September 1, 2026. This fee helps cover the cost for maintaining Direct to U.S. bank as a payout option, so we can continue offering it to international freelancers.
If I use the Direct to U.S. Bank option to get paid, how long does the money take to arrive in my bank account?
Funds will arrive in your bank account within two to five business days from ACH deposits. Processing and clearing times can vary widely from bank to bank. Bank holidays can also delay your funds. If your payment hasn't arrived after five business days, reach out to us. We can help trace the payment.
