Upwork allows you to operate as a freelancer, client, or agency using one login with separate profiles. You can add a client or freelancer account via Account Settings and easily switch roles through your profile menu. This flexibility supports diverse work and hiring needs on the platform.
Whether you're freelancing, running an agency, or hiring as a client, you’ll use the same Upwork account to log in. Each role has its own profile, and you can easily switch between them anytime.
If you're a freelancer or agency manager now, but would like to set up a client account so you can hire others:
- Go to Account settings (desktop) or Settings (mobile app) > Contact info and scroll down to Additional accounts
- Choose New Client Account
- Once set up, you can switch between using Upwork as a client, freelancer, or agency from the account menu under your profile picture
If you're a client now, but would like to do work as a freelancer or agency:
- Go to Account settings (desktop) or Settings (mobile app) > My info
- Select the Create New Account link
- Choose New Freelancer Account
- Once set up, you can switch between using Upwork as a client, freelancer, or agency from the account menu under your profile picture
