What is a Job Success Score?

The Job Success Score (JSS) is a performance metric that measures a freelancer’s overall success on the platform. It reflects client satisfaction, contract outcomes, and long-term client relationships. Upwork updates this score daily, considering the freelancer’s contracts over 6-month, 12-month, and 24-month timeframes.

A high JSS (90% or above) signals strong performance and client satisfaction, often leading to Top Rated status. A low JSS (below 79%) can make it harder to secure new projects. Once you earn a Job Success Score, it will be visible in search results and on your profile.

Why is the Job Success Score Important?

  1. Boosts Visibility & Attracts Clients
A high JSS makes a freelancer’s profile more appealing to clients, increasing the chances of being invited to projects.

  2. Qualification for Talent Badges

    • Top Rated & Top Rated Plus: Requires a JSS of 90% or higher for an extended period.

    • Rising Talent: Pre-JSS freelancers may qualify before their first score.

  3. Impacts Search Rankings
Upwork’s algorithm favors freelancers with high JSS, placing them higher in search results.

  4. Client Trust & Credibility
Clients use JSS as a quality indicator. A freelancer with 95% JSS or higher is perceived as reliable, while below 80% raises concerns.

  5. Helps Track Performance
Freelancers can monitor their JSS and Job Success Insights to analyze contracts affecting their score.
